Collection « Les sciences sociales contemporaines »
Summary This article examines the impact of technological change on the traditional Acadian society (of Southwestern Nova Scotia) and on the survival of the Acadians. This analysis in being conducted by viewing the Acadian culture as a whole and trying to see how technological advances have brought about new occupational patterns and deep changes in the social structure (family and kinship structure, processes of social differentiation, and the new power elites) as well as in value-orientations. Viewing all these socio-cultural transformations as acculturational changes, the author assesses the possibilities of survival and development of the Acadian society.
